VIRTUAL STUDENT CONDUCT
VIRTUAL STUDENT CONDUCT
Students must maintain virtual settings and behaviors that are conducive for instruction and that minimize distractions.
VIRTUAL WORK SETTINGS
Students are expected to have a designated work area in their home cleared of everything other than what they need for class. Working stations must be free of foreign objects that are not being utilized for instruction.
The recording device, being used for instruction must be positioned to allow teachers to observe both the working space and student, especially during testing.
Eating and drinking are not allowed during virtual courses. This is hazardous to electronic devices and can also be distracting during instruction.
When possible, students are encouraged to work in areas that are isolated from other individuals and pets. If circumstances exist that do not allow complete seclusion, the parent will need to share this information separately with the teacher. Teachers will only require what the parent can reasonably provide.
Additional electronic devices should not be kept or used within the visible working are, unless they are being utilized for instruction/are teacher approved. This includes the use of speakers, phones, earphones and other devices that may provide distractions from teacher instruction.
Students will follow daily guidance from their teachers regarding best methods of communicating and participating during virtual schooling. Instructions regarding when and how to interact verbally and how to use audio and camera options will be dependent on the design of instruction directed by the teacher.
Students are to remain positively engaged in instruction and participate.
Behavior that is disruptive to the virtual schooling setting will be addressed using Bogalusa City School Student Code of Conduct.
Students are to wear appropriate dress that does not distract from the virtual learning process. Inappropriate attire including but not limited to the following are prohibited: Pajamas or clothing that is transparent or overly revealing, clothing with profanity; derogatory terms; racial slurs; or sexual content. School uniforms will not be required for virtual schooling.
DISCIPLINE FOR VIRTUAL LEARNERS
Students should refrain from engaging in any of the behaviors identified in the Bogalusa City School Student Code of Conduct while engaged in virtual schooling. The Bogalusa City School has extended its normal behavior guidelines to the virtual classroom with a few modifications that factor in the home setting.
Behavior that could result in disciplinary actions for virtual students include but not limited to cyberbullying, wearing inappropriate clothing, repeated tardiness, inappropriate use of electronic media, threats, and intentional disturbances of a virtual class.
For Students who break rules, discipline will be with one of two kinds of virtual suspensions: in-school and out of school.
In-school suspensions: The learning will be able to log on to the virtual classroom but will not be allowed to participate in the instructions. (Listening only)
Out-of-school: The learning will not be allowed to log on to the virtual classroom nor complete any posted assignments.
Recommended expulsion will be reserved for serious discipline infractions but none that violate a student's constitutional rights in a home setting. For example: there are not weapon or firearm zones in a home setting as there are on school campus.
Parents of students who are recommended for expulsion but whose penalty is reduced to a suspension after due process may appeal to the school board and district court in the same manner as an expelled student.
