1. Amend the agenda to add item d – Approval for all employees to get out a half-a-day December 21, 2023. Dr. Laverne Cook made a motion. Odie Hughes seconded the motion. The motion passed with
unanimous approval.
2. Approval of Minutes of Regular Board Meeting – November 16, 2023. Dr. Brad Williams made a motion. Cathy Mitchell seconded the motion. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
3. Committee Reports - None
4. Presentation of The Bogalusa City Schools’ and Northshore Charter School’s Student of the Year & Recognition of all student of the year candidates – Charlotte Tillman, Chief Academic Officer.
Northshore Charter School: Alyssa Brumfield – 5th Grade. Missy Varnado, School Test Coordinator at Northshore Charter School, spoke highly of District Student of the Year, Alyssa Brumfield. Alyssa has always excelled as a student. She has always been a high-performance student and her fellow classmates look up to her. Alyssa has a great future ahead of her. Missy Varnado presented Alyssa with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Charlotte Tillman, presented Alyssa with a plaque.
Bogalusa Middle School: Rodrick Payne – 8th Grade. Dr. Eric Greely, Principal of Bogalusa High
School, spoke highly of District Student of the Year, Rodrick Payne, Jr. Rodrick is a member of the
National Honor Society and Student Council. Dr. Greely presented Rodrick with a beautiful, wrapped gift. Charlotte Tillman presented Roderick with a plaque.
Bogalusa High School: Roderick Robinson – 12th Grade. Dr Eric Greely, Principal of Bogalusa
High School, spoke highly of District Student of the Year, Roderick Robinson. Roderick is Bogalusa
High School’s Senior Class President and has been a true role model for the high school students.
Roderick is taking dual enrollment classes and has maintained a 4.0 GPA. Dr. Greely presented
Roderick with a beautiful, wrapped gift. Charlotte Tillman presented Roderick with a plaque.
5. Presentation to Byrd Avenue and Central Elementary School for academic improvement –
Dr. Byron Hurst, Superintendent.
· Presented Byrd Avenue’s Principal, Tonyah Jefferson, with a banner congratulating her and her staff for earning 11.1 points of academic growth in overall school performance during 22/23 school year. A stipend was also provided to Byrd Avenue’s full staff for their hard work and teamwork.
· Presented Central Elementary’s Principal, Kawanda August, with a banner congratulating her and her staff for showing academic growth by 11.8 points at her school. A stipend was also provided to Central Elementary’s full staff for their hard work.
6. Recess to Public Session –
· Roniqua Watkins spoke concerning district issues.
· Roderick Robinson spoke concerning his 2024 Senior Class trip.
· Dana Walker spoke concerning the 2024 Senior Class trip.
7. New Business
b. Finances & Business – Deloris Walker [presented by Dr. Byron Hurst, Superintendent]
1. Approval of November 2023, Revised Budgets and Financial statements: General Fund, Food Service, Special Revenue, and School Activities.
2. Approval to distribute 12-mills checks to all eligible current employees.
3. Approval for BHS Boys and Girls Basketball Team to travel to Poplarville High School for a basketball game.
4. Approval of stipends for eligible current employees.
· Dr. Laverne Cook made a motion. Dr. Brad Williams seconded the motion. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
1. Approval of Forethought Policy Update December 2023.
CG: Administrative Records; DFG: Donations and Gifts; EBBH: Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Cardiac Emergency Plan; GBG: Probation; IHAD: Parent Conferences; JGB: School Wellness; JGC: Student Health Services.
· Dr. Brad Williams made a motion. Odie Hughes seconded the motion. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
