BOARD MEETING

The Bogalusa City School Board met in Regular Board Meeting at the Bogalusa City School Board Office in the Rev. Raymond E Mims Media Center, located at 1705 Sullivan Drive, Bogalusa, Louisiana, on November 16, 2020.  The purpose of the meeting is to address information received from Department Supervisors on November 16, 2020, during the Committee Meeting, regarding updates and approval request.

 

1.)        Call to Order – President Paul Kates.

 

2.)        Pledge of Allegiance – Mrs. Tanner

 

3.)        Prayer – Mr. Kemp

 

4.)        Roll Call: _X_ President Paul Kates, _absent__ Vice President Ricky Killingsworth, _X__ Mrs. Breaux, _X__

5.)        Approval of Minutes of Regular Board Meeting – November 4, 2020.  It was motioned by Mr. Creel.  A second was made by Mr. Kemp.  The motion passed with unanimous approval.

 

6.)         Board Officer and Committee Report – Mr. Kates started the meeting off by mentioning how important it is to have the all of the board office supervisors present at all board meetings, so he suggested for all supervisors be present at all meetings.   

 

7.)        Recess to Public Session – Karen Sharp located at 63160 Northwood Road, Bogalusa, LA, presented a question to the board regarding any available property the school system may have.  She will like to purchase or lease one of the vacant schools to have for a mission group she intends to start for the homeless in city.  Sharp is currently doing volunteer work in the city and has plans for the mission group.   

 

8.)        Old Business

 

a.             Approval of October 2020, Financial Statements General Funds, Food Service, Special Revenue and School Activities.  It was motioned by Dr. Williams and second by Mrs. Duke.  The motion passed with unanimous approval.

b.            Approval of Discipline Policy Update: Virtual Discipline and Consequence.  It was motioned by Mr. Kemp and second by Dr. Williams.  The motion was passed with unanimous approval. 

 

9.)        Superintendent Tanner Comments –   LaShayla Jones, a 10th Grade Bogalusa High School student, received a $500.00 check from ADAPT, Inc., of Bogalusa for winning an essay contest.  Shavantae Simms, an 11th Grade Bogalusa High School student, also received a $100.00 check from ADAPT for winning an essay contest. We are so proud of our students.  Northshore Technical Community College will be on the high school campus for the students to learn more about the technical college and see what courses they have to offer.  It was the Principal of Bogalusa High School, Nick McIntosh’s, idea to have the college visit the campus, so the students could get more involved in what Northshore Tech. has to offer to the students such as grants and the courses they have available for study.

            Students will resume to virtual after Thanksgiving and will return back to school in January 2021 due to COVID-19.

            ACT scores are in from October.  An average of 15 students made a score of 18 or above.  We also had some scores of 24 and 25.  An order has been put in by the school for those who need to retest for the ACT.  The BCS will pay for the retesting.    

 

10.)      Board Members Comments – Mrs. Breaux closed the meeting with thanking Title I Department for providing her with information she requested.  She also needs the salaries and the amount of money spent in Title I Department. Breaux also expressed strong concerns for the students and employees of The Bogalusa City Schools.
