Committee Meeting
The Bogalusa School Board met in a Regular Board Meeting at the Bogalusa City School Board Office Media Center, located at 1705 Sullivan Drive, Bogalusa, Louisiana, on February 20, 2020. The purpose of the meeting is to address information received from Department Supervisors, on February 20, 2020, during the Committee Meeting, regarding updates and approval requests.
1.) Call to Order – President Paul Kates

3.) Prayer – Willie “Toni” Breaux
4.) Roll Call: X President Kates, X Vice President Killingsworth, _X_ Mrs. Breaux, X Mr. Creel, A Mrs. Duke, X Mr. Kemp, X Dr. Williams
5.) Approval of Minutes of Regular Board Meeting January 30, 2020, 2019. It was motioned by Mr. Creel. A second was made by Mr. Kemp. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
6.) Board Office Committee Report – None
7.) Presented Teacher of the Year Awards – Byrd Avenue – Pamela Cyprian, Central Elementary – Virgie Moses, BHS Middle School – Tameka Johnson, BHS – Richard Magee
8.) Public Session
a. Marlaina Dorman, 1119 West Long 8th St., Bogalusa, LA – Concerned for the lack of recess. Believes recess is good for helping the kids to focus better, helps with social skills and interacting with each other, gives them opportunity to share their knowledge. Every parent she has spoken to believes this needs to be addressed. School Board Member Toni Breaux asked what school her children attended and she informed us that they go to Northshore Charter. The board thanked her for her concerns but that she needed to address her concerns with Mrs. McCoullough.
b. Andrew Moses, 809 Mercedes St. Bogalusa, LA - Inquiring about the use of the stadium to the general public. He believes that the use of the track helps keep the community in touch with BHS.
8.) New Business
a. Approval of permission to travel for BHS Senior Trip, traveling to Atlanta, GA departing April 23, 2020 returning April 26, 2020. It was motioned by Mr. Creel. A second was made by Mr. Killingsworth. The motion passed with unanimous approval
b. Approval of Erate Bids.It was motioned by Dr. Williams. A second was made by Mr. Kemp. The motion passed with unanimous approval
c. Approval of January, 2020 Revised Budgets and Financial Statements; General Fund, Food Services, Special Revenue and School Activities. It was motioned by Mr. Kemp. A second was made by Mrs. Duke. The motion passed with unanimous approval
d. Approval of Resolution by Bogalusa School Board to authorize the Superintendent to sign an intergovernmental agreement with Washington Parish Government to assist the Bogalusa School Board with skilled labor and mechanized equipment towards driveway, parking area, road rehabilitation, drainage and flood control. It was motioned by Dr. Williams. A second was made by Mr. Creel. The motion passed with unanimous approval
9.) Superintendent Tanner Comments - Thanked everyone for coming congratulated all of the Teachers of the Year. Told the board members the draft of the 2020-2021 calendar was in their folders for their review. She explained to them about the principals requesting PD days being done every other month instead of at the beginning of school. Superintendent Tanner spoke about the Superintendent Administrative Council Meeting and noted it was John White’s last meeting. She also expressed interest in holding Committee Meetings within the next month and to discuss having the retreat. Superintendent Tanner expressed her gratitude to The King (Chad Harry) and Queen (Monique Morris) of Unity and The King (Terry Pierce) and Queen (Amber Scott) for being ambassadors to our city and schools and wanted everyone to know how much the children enjoy them coming to the schools. Central Elementary will hold their Black History Month Program on Friday, February 21, 2020 and the Unity & MCCA Kings & Queens will be going to the school. She also asked for prayer for the employees we have out sick and for Mrs. Walker’s upcoming surgery.
10.) Deloris Walker asked everyone to please take the Census serious and do you part of working with the Census workers when they come around and/or fill out your Census cards. It is very important to the Federal Grants our city and schools receive.
11.) Board Members Comments – All board members congratulated the Teachers of the Year and wished everyone a safe Mardi Gras Week.
