Regular Board Meeting

The Bogalusa School Board met in a Regular Board Meeting at the Bogalusa City School Board Office Media Center, located at 1705 Sullivan Drive, Bogalusa, Louisiana, on January 30, 2020. The purpose of the meeting is to address information received from Department Supervisors, on January 27, 2020, during the Committee Meeting, regarding updates and approval requests.

5.) Approval of Minutes of Regular Board Meeting December 19, 2019. It was motioned by Mr. Creel. A second was made by Mr. Kemp. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
6.) Board Office Committee Report – None
7.) Public Session
1. Daryll Smith – 15054 Hwy. 1075 Bogalusa, LA - We have afailing school system and we need to keep our eye on the ball. I encourage you all to do more. I presented questions before and I am not pleased with the answers. Question 1 - Concerned. Discipline & students being able to continue with extracurricular activities. Question 2 – Cell Phone usage is not being tracked and enforced. Very few $$$ was collected for cell phone fines. Question 3 – Organizational Chart was given upon request. Question 4 – Why are so many teachers out and being replaced with substitutes.
2. Vanessa Tyson 1410 A Mack St. Bogalusa, LA – Stated that she has been here on several occasions but something needs to be done about children with ADHD. These children are causing disruption and are a nightmare to deal with in the classrooms. Behavior modifications need to be done. JPAM’s is a joke and teachers are not putting their lesson plans on JPAMS.
3. Norman Magee 1330 Dan St. Bogalusa, LA – Grandson has been sent to Central to Northside for 25 days with no transportation provided. Charter sends a bus but we can’t. Superintendent Tanner and Dee Dee McCullough addressed his issues and let him know that the state only allows transportation of SPED students to alternative school. This is a policy that is in place to try to hold parents and children accountable for their behaviors. Superintendent Tanner said she would look into this matter further.
4. Tameka Greely 925 East 4th St. Apt. 92, Bogalusa, LA – Why is it that we can’t get in to see the principal’s when needed. She stated that she understands the role of the disciplinarian, but they cannot handle everything. Mr. Kates asked for Superintendent Tanner to meet with the principal and Mrs. Greely on Friday.
5. Dana Walker1607 Hillsdale St., Bogalusa, LA – Stated she was here on behalf of the BHS-PTO Vice President – Things need to continue changing but her observation is the Superintendent, Principals & staff are working hard on making positive changes. Kids are not walking the halls as much and they are making sure the kids are where they are supposed to be. Positive changes are being made. She also stated that the new Math Teacher she referred is working out good and wanted to continue the positive working relationship with BCS.
6. Cody Magee 51401 Thigpen Road, Franklinton, LA– Stated he is a BHS teacher and wanted everyone to know that he sits here month after month listening to everyone’s concerns and he wanted everyone to know discipline and guidelines are being followed much better the second half of the year. The guidelines have been communicated to the students. They have all pretty much realized and are working together to do the right thing.
8.) New Business
a. Approval of Revised Budgets, December, 2019 Financial Statements, General Fund, Food Service, Special Revenue and School Activities. It was motioned by Mr. Kemp. A second was made by Mr. Killingsworth. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
b. Approval to disburse 12 mils checks to all full time employees. It was motioned by Dr. Williams. A second was made by Mr. Creel. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
c. Approval of 2019 Audit Report. It was motioned by Mr. Kemp. A second was made by Dr. Williams. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
d. Approval of Carr, Riggs & Ingram Audit Engagement Letter 2020 – 2022. It was motioned by Mr Killingsworth. A second was made by Mr. Kemp. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
e. Approval to hold February Committee & Board Meetings on Thursday, February 20, 2020. It was motioned by Mr Killingsworth. A second was made by Mr. Kemp. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
f. Approval for BHS Track & Field to travel to Picayune, MS on March 3, 2020 and Tylertown, MS on March 20, 2020. It was motioned by Dr. Williams. A second was made by Mr. Creel. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
9.) Superintendent Tanner Comments - Thanked everyone for coming out and assured everyone that spoke tonight that she would being working on their issues tomorrow. She also stated that she looked forward to working with the board and everyone in the upcoming year.
10.) Board Members Comments – Mr. Killingsworth addressed Mr. Smith by letting him know that there is a Matrix for the Superintendent and that this board can do more outside of the board room than they can do sitting behind the board table. President Kates thanked everyone for coming and encouraged everyone to continue supporting BCS.
