Proceedings of the Bogalusa School Board taken at the Regular Meeting that was held on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
The Bogalusa School Board met in a Regular Board Meeting at the Bogalusa City School Board Office Media Center, located at 1705 Sullivan Drive, Bogalusa, Louisiana, on February 28, 2019. The purpose of the meeting is to address information received from Department Supervisors, on February 28, 2019, during the Committee Meeting, regarding updates and approval requests.

3.) Prayer – Mr. Ricky Killingsworth
4.) Roll Call: X President Creel, X Vice President Kates, X Mrs. Breaux, X Mrs. Duke, X Mr. Kemp,X Mr. Killingsworth, X Dr. Williams @ 5:37 p.m.
5.) Approval of Minutes of Regular Board Meeting January 31, 2019. It was motioned by Dr. Williams. A second was made by Mr. Kemp. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
6.) New Business
a. Approval of Central Elementary 4th grade Request for Educational Field Trip to Infinity Space Center, in Bay St. Louis, MS on Tuesday, April, 2, 2019. It was motioned by Mr. Kemp. A second was made by Mrs. Duke. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
b. Approval of Central Elementary School Request for Educational Field Trip to Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, MS on Friday, May 3, 2019. It was motioned by Dr. Williams. A second was made by Mr. Kates. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
c. Approval of BHS Request for Educational Field Trip to the 2019 SeaPerch Challenge in Biloxi, MS on Saturday, March 16, 2019. It was motioned by Mrs. Duke. A second was made by Mr. Kemp. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
d. Approval of BHS Track Team to travel to Track & Field Meet in Picayune, MS on Thursday, March 7, 2019 and to Tylertown, MS on Friday, March 22, 2019. It was motioned by Mr. Kemp. A second was made by Mrs. Duke. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
e. Approval for BHS Baseball Team to travel to Poplarville, MS in March. Date has not been approved. It was motioned by Mr. Killingsworth. A second was made by Mr. Kates. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
f. Approval of January, 2019 Revised Budgets, Financial Statements, General Fund, Food Service, Special Revenue and School Activities. It was motioned by Mr. Kates. A second was made by Mrs. Duke. The motion passed with unanimous approval.
7.) Superintendent Comments – Superintendent Tanner presented and recognized the BHS Track Team for being runner ups for the State of Louisiana Indoor Track Meet. She also read a Facebook post from Monica Rester who wanted to commend a student’s (Haiken Thompson) kindness and support to her daughter who was from another school and he showed such kindness and respect to her. Mrs. Tanner also recognized Derek Keating for advancing to the State powerlifting championship. BHS Students participated in District Literary Rally, 9 advanced to state. Mrs. Tanner spoke on the Byrd Avenue Valentines Extravaganza King & Queen. Transformyx & Unity will be coming in during the Mardi Gras holiday to do cabling starting at Central – on Monday and continue Wed Thurs. & Friday. Josh Herndon will be trained by Transformyx & Unity. There will be a Local 776 Negotiation Meeting on 3/11 @ 4:00 pm. Superintendent Tanner expressed her wishes to get the Board Committees appointed and begin meeting as soon as possible. She also gave an update on the BCS/WPS Commission Meeting. In addition, Superintendent Tanner expressed her sorrow for missing the LASBO conference due to a death in her family.
8.) Board Members Comments – Board Members all thanked everyone for coming and expressed their gratitude to the track, weight lifting and literacy members for their outstanding accomplishments. Mrs. Breaux had several questions regarding Rep. White & Senator Mizell and their authority to have this commission. The LA Bill was explained to Mrs. Breaux and she expressed her concerns that they should just leave us alone. She stated there are other ways to improve test scores and that Franklinton does not want us anyway. She stated that we need committed & dedicated teachers more aids and counseling assistance. Mrs. Duke had concerns regarding the BHS Auditorium use for funerals and public events. Mr. Creel said the new committees will discuss public use of the auditorium and would like to discuss further the damage deposits, contracts rental fees rules & parking to make sure all is covered. Mr. Killingsworth would like to see the American Flag flying over all schools and school board office.
